The above statement itself is total nonsense.
British India did not include the various kingdoms, who generally supported the British rule, and were on terms of mutual alliance. In fact, in Travancore State Manual, the following words are seen given: QUOTE: The road, already described, cuts the mountain saddle at its lowest point, and connects it(Travancore) to British India. END OF QUOTE.
