This appears to be WP:OR and its use in articles without WP:RS is suspect.

Not at all. Wiki policy acknowledges that copyright issues necessitate the use of editor created images. WP:OR states Original images created by a Wikipedia editor are not, as a class, considered original research – as long as they do not illustrate or introduce unpublished ideas or arguments, the core reason behind the NOR policy. The role of ballistic pressure waves in wound ballistics is discussed in numerous articles. Some of these articles include graphs of experimental ballistic pressure waves measured with high speed pressure transducers and give the magnitude of the ballistic pressure waves associated with different loads, along with methods of computation.
