I think there are so many pictures of her face because if the artist didn't know what a subject looked like, s/he used the face he/s copied from the Academy Raffaello. (Don't tell the Dominicans, Franciscans or Jesuits.)
I really don't know enough about the subject from primary sources to write articles for a general public who could not understand our 'controversy'. The renaissance artists they know, Michelangelo and Leonardo, were not the artists Raphaelites are. Michelangelo and Leonardo worked alone and Raphael is a designer for the Roman Comacine Master Builders. (Meltzi is Francisco.) All u gotta do is gender neutralize the Sanzio story and let your readers figure it out for themselves. A little hypertexting toward Mannerism might help. Like I said, "I see the effect of my writing to u in cyberspace."
Cybrarian's note, Tell u'r computer "hypertext" is one word.
