Dear Mr. Andrews, Looking at the map I am surprised and shocked about the way you difference countries in different groups / colours. The parameters are strange figures like under or over 5800, 2600, 33000, 920, 3580 !!..., It seems that with these arbitrary parameters you want to put countries in one or another group/colour depending on you political ideas or feelings towards these countries. What motivates you to do this ? I haven't seen this type of differentiation anywhere else. I suggest something more comprehensible and that can not be acussed of being biased, let's say: Under 1000; 1000 to 3000; 3000 to 6000; 6000 to 15.000; 15.000 to 30.000; 30.000 to 40.000; over 40.000 This type of political and biased intervention doesnt speak well about wikipedia, and we should all try that the free encyclopedia doesn't loose its credibility.
Thank you for raising this issue, as it can always seem mystifying as to why someone does these things. The first thing I did was decided on 8 colours (8 groups). Then I divided the amount of countries that there was by 8. I ordered all of the countries by GDP per capita and then put them into 8 different groups with the same amount of countries in each (nearly the same amount; however many countries there was it doesn't divide exactly by 8, so some groups might be 1 bigger than other). Then I set about flood filling in the countries for their colour. At the end I realised I should put in a key for this and unfortunately the border between each group lies on some "bizarre figures". I hope I solved any concerns you had. Bsrboy 17:54, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
It'd make more sense to just give each colour a solid rounded number like every other statistics map. Also, why is the colour code so weird? At first glance it would appear that China and other brown countries are the lowest. Sbw01f (talk) 06:50, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
That's why there are two different maps. Some people might prefer my version, because it's more equally divided. Some people might prefer the other version, because it has different colours. Bsrboy 19:47, 1 March 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bsrboy (talk • contribs)
