the J in NJ

Is it noteworthy that the J for Jersey is backwards? Is that something that one might commonly see from that day? I did a quick look at the history of the letter J, but the only thing that article has to say is that it began as a swash of the letter I. If it was still considered just a swash, it might just as well be a swash to the right as to the left. Just idly wondering. D. F. Schmidt (talk) 21:28, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
