File talk:F-106 unmanned landing.jpg
Appearance
I believe that the front part of this aircraft is a mock-up. If the pilot ejected the canopy is the first thing that goes, but the canopy seems to be present in this shot. Perhaps a silhouette of the forward fuselage was placed in the shot to help with the Air Force's investigation.
Front fuselage is not mocked
[edit]This aircraft was in a flat spin that the pilot wasn't able to correct. The force of the pilot ejecting pushed the nose down which brought the plane out of the flat spin and resulted in a landing - unmanned. Look closely and you'll see there is a cover on the front fuselage and over the cockpit. Note the slight dip where the canopy would have been. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lkirch (talk • contribs) 05:02, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
