File talk:Ekman spirale.svg
Appearance
This image is bluntly WRONG in several aspects: * Current velocity decreases exponentially with depth and so the Ekman spiral can’t be represented as a cone (a tangent to the cone face is a straight line). * Coriolis force (4) is perpendicular to the movement (3) and not to the friction force (2) * The driving force is “wind stress”. This will propagate downwards through ocean layers as a friction drag. A better representation would put this “force” just below the vector depicting the current movement and not at the next layer as it is represented. --CGM444 (talk) 17:08, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
