This is the wrong coat of arms of Kenya. It should not be dragons, but rather lions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lordmwesh (talk • contribs)
Wrong Coat of Arms
[edit]Three things to note: 1. This is a poor computer generated version of the Kenya Coat of Arms, with weak furry dragons, instead of the strong, muscular and virile lions that are the emblem of my nation. We are the home of the Big 5, and the Lion is king of this African savannah. 2. The creator of this travesty is no Kenyan nor friend of the Republic. Infact, this was done for the Embassy in Paris, and not for the Government at Home. 3. The Lions are golden, not yellow; the colours are expected to be dark, just like they are on the national flag. The point-edge of the spear is supposed to be long and thin, and at least 1.2 - 1.5 times longer than the top-end shaft that each lion holds.
The coat of arms is a fixed national image, like the face of a living person, or like the extent of our national borders. It cannot, and should not be sexed-up for whatsoever reasons, because such spurious artistry misrepresents the fact of the image - it results in something else than the Republic intends. Anything else that does not significantly correspond to these, is a fake Da Vinci, and should be pulled down from Wikipedia!

Fry1989, would you care to respond to these allegations? :) Killiondude (talk) 06:30, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I understand your complaint, or why I am being mentioned here. I did not create this image, I am simply the most recent uploader because I made some minor changes. I do agree that our representations should be as realistic and accurate to the way the respective government shows it's coat of arms, but that is not always an option. Another issue is that coats of arms are described on paper in what is called a "blazon", a text which tells us in words what the coat of arms has in it. As long as an artist follows the blazon, they are being correct. Kenya's blazon for example would say "lions for supporters". As long as the artist draws something that looks like lions, they're being right. I'm sure you know that there are many ways to draw a lion. Does this image look like your sources as much as it should? No, but I would hardly call it a travesty. If there are improvements you would like done to the image, I suggest you make a Graphic Lab request, describing what you don't like and want changed. Fry1989 eh? 16:38, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
- I only tagged you because I saw your name in the image history. I have interacted with you and knew you would likely respond. Not to single you out or for any negative reason. I apologize if it came off that way. I have no say in the matter and just wondered what you thought. Thank you for replying. Killiondude (talk) 18:26, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not offended, just confused as to the original complaint. They look like lions to me, and while it's not as good as it could be it's not a travesty. Fry1989 eh? 18:31, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, I just realized that perhaps you thought I wrote the long rant above my tag of you. It was done by some IP (195.202.76.4). Killiondude (talk) 04:10, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
- I did at first, however looking at the history it appears the complaint is by several anonymous users. Either way, I think it's more a case of that "Old World mentality" of national pride that everything has to be perfect and anything less is an insult, then anything truly actionable. The creator did what he could, and probably the best he thought he could. We still have an obligation to show these things for our readers, even if they aren't perfect. "Good but not perfect" is better then nothing. Fry1989 eh? 16:40, 24 May 2013 (UTC)

This is indeed the wrong image. I'm not sure why it was posted in the first place; no Kenyan embassy or national site uses this. In fact it seems famous online for being the wrong image, at a site that provides a high res version of the real heraldry. – SJ + 01:28, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
