I am confused by this. I have an original bookplate of Joseph Priestley. It has a coat of arms pictured on it along with the name "Joseph Priestley" I believe that my bookplate belonged to Joseph Priestley (1733-1804). This is the Joseph Priestley who was the British dissenting Unitarian Minister who, among other things is credited with the isolation of the element Oxygen (detail added for disambiguation). Here I have an image of that bookplate:
You should note that there are some similarities, but, also, that there notable dissimilarities. I have no idea how to come to any conclusions about either of these depictions. Can anyone explain?
