Geography Vs. Politics
[edit]This article does a fine job of ignoring reality and repeating the fictions of our governments.
What "Time Zone" someplace is in is determined by geography.
The observed time is determined by politics.
The 'Central Time' is a convention that political bodies have created that is an approximation GMT -6. Where the time zone is and what time is observed are two very different things. For instance most of the state of Texas is in the GMT -7 (Mountain) time zone but they observe central time (Except for El Paso).
While observed 'time zones' might be an convenient approximation, "Daylight Savings Time" is just a out and out lie designed to steal an hour of sleep from the workers for 8 months a year.
Imagine the poor worker in west Texas. Has to be at work at 6AM central time but he lives where the geography and the sun say it's GMT -7 so he rarely sees the sun in the morning and then someone tells him that he should 'save daylight' and pretend that he is really in the eastern zone GMT -5 so he can wake up in the dark and go to bed before sunset. Thank You for an 'extra' hour of daylight Washington. It should be sleep depriving time. Of course they said it saved energy but that has been disproved when Indiana submitted to daylight saving time and records showed NO SAVINGS.
So where 'Central Time' is observed may vary, the actual time zone that 'Central Time' is supposed to indicate GMT -6, never changes and won't change unless the British plan on moving the prime meridian in Greenwich.
