I don't doubt that the original description of this image is Communist propaganda (the description of the German troops as "fascist" instead of "Nazi", if anything, kind of gives it away), but what then is Communist propaganda doing in the German Federal Archives? 83.226.206.82 (talk) 01:16, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

- I've seen this picture before, except the bloodied man in the foreground was described as a member of the Shtrafbat, Soviet Penal Battalion (suicide squads). They were guarded by fellow Soviets (SMERSH operatives) who, themselves, did not participate in combat. Instead they stayed behind to shoot the Shtrafbat if they ran.
