This photo, despite its caption, is of the Emden built in 1916. It is not the Emden built in 1909. Simply ask yourself, how could this be called the "Swan of the East" for its "graceful lines" when the lines are no different than any other wartime light cruiser. That alone should tell you something is amiss. Several sources are getting this wrong, I assume primarily due to the archival caption stating the ship shown is at "Tsingtau" in "1914," which can not be true as the ship in this photo had not been built until 1916.

The first photo about the ship in this article, published on November 18, 1914 is of the correct, 1909-built Emden. As you can see, it fits the description "Swan of the East" and from a naval architectural point-of-view is in keeping with various late 19th and very early 20th century ship styles, such as a ship built in 1909 would be.

I did not change anything. But I thought others should be made aware. This error is being carried on and on and someone needs to get it straight.

The error appears to be yours (see Talk:SMS Emden (1908)#Ship Photos). As to several sources getting it wrong, it could be that they are right and you are wrong, as the caption is correct if you start from the assumption that the ship is the 1908 Emden and not the 1916 Emden. Certainly there are more objections to this being the 1916 Emden than that 1908 one, poetic nicknames not withstanding. Benea (talk) 06:42, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
