I have edited the text under this image. Imagine my surprise to see this photo when I was browsing the article on Brunswick. I have seen this photo and others in my family's possession with an accompanying article in the Argus or Age describing the event. The reporter asked my great grandfather Sgt Deasey, if he was worried by the numbers expected in the march (tens of thousands) He replied to the effect that if this had been Ireland ( his birthplace) they would have been using guns rather than Batons to control the crowd, but that he had no fears.
