Many images of the flag/emblem of Bosk of Port Kar have been depicted on the internet .. on all of them, seems the artists(s) has forgotten that the bosk had *four* horns, not two like the earth bovine for which the image seems to be modeled ... even fantasy Boris Vallejo has it wrong in his illustration for the cover of the Ballantine edition of "Raiders of Gor" ... -- 23:59, 3 January 2013 Tarnmaster
- Not sure what you mean -- the first description in book 4 says "It has a wide head and tiny red eyes, a temper to match that of a sleen, and two long, wicked horns that reach out from its head and suddenly curve forward to terminate in fearful points." The symbol of the tribe of Tuchuks consists of four horns (or two sets of horns) in a loose H-like configuration, but that's a different thing. Even if a Bosk had 4 horns, it could still be the case that only two would be visible in a front view... AnonMoos (talk) 01:06, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
I stand here with much vulo egg on my face ... I have been reading Gor for over 40 years, and have read Nomads many times ... I had seen the description of bosk as - "It has a wide head and tiny red eyes, a fearful temper, and four long, wicked, curved and pointed horns. The horns, from tip to tip may measure two spears in length." on a web site, and , having seen the Wagon Peoples brand as four horns, drew up in my mind the bosk with four horns ... that I could have been so mistaken, and adamant about four-horned bosk is an embarrassment to me as a "Gor expert" ... I muchly apologize for the error ... and now to correct my own web site ... I wish you well ... -- 03:06, 4 January 2013 Tarnmaster
- It's OK -- the horns shown on the flag are probably not wide enough to be two spear's lengths long anyway (it's a bit of artistic license which follows from my first basic decision to fit the flag in an 800x600 box) ... AnonMoos (talk) 07:37, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
- P.S. I don't think there are many versions of the Bosk of Port Kar ship flag on the internet, but someone has used this SVG file to sell merchandise on Zazzle.[1] It's semi-stupid, but it's allowed by my releasing it as PD (lots of luck to him on selling business cards with this as the background!).
