"Please note that Google Maps images CANNOT be used on Wikipedia, even if tagged as nfc"
On what basis? I asked around prior to uploading the image and was assured it would be fine. The fair use rationale I provided seems perfectly valid, and there are other screenshots of Google Maps on Wikipedia, at the Google Maps article for one. Small-town hero (talk) 05:49, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
- Actually, I just arrived at the same conclusion as you. Looking through WP:CSD and the archives of WP:MCQ, there is a lot of conflicting information on this subject. Will get back to you shortly on this. -FASTILYsock (TALK) 05:58, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
The image seems to meet all ten non-free content criteria and falls within acceptable use as Images: 6. Screenshots from software products: For critical commentary. Unless Wikipedia sets a higher hurdle specifically for Google, use of the image looks legitimate in Argleton (and perhaps in trap street, fictitious entry, etc., but not elsewhere). The point is that this article is not about a typical town which could be illustrated with OpenStreetMap, it is about a Google Maps anomaly. Certes (talk) 23:03, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
