Attribution to Sully

Exactly who "possibly" attributes this painting to Thomas Sully? Looking at Sullys work on his article page and at Commons, it does not seem to be up to the usual quality of Sullys work, the anatomy atrocious, the pose strange. Unless a citation can be added to prove this attribution, I will remove it. Heironymous Rowe (talk) 01:16, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

The portrait is contained in the book by William L. Chaffin: History of the Town of Easton, Massachusetts, John Wilson and Son, University Press, Cambridge, Massachusetts (1886). The portrait plate is located between pages 256 and 257. The author, Chaffin, notes on page 256 that the portrait is "the work of Sully". That's the extent of the reference. If you feel strongly, you can remove the extra semantics "possibly Thomas Sully" from the summary. However, would you please leave the semantics "attributed to Sully”, as per page 256 of the book. (By the way, my perspective is a bit different than yours. When I compare this portrait with Thomas Sully's portraits, I see some similarities. Perhaps it's 'early' Sully. But, no worries. Implemented edit for complete objectivity. Incorporated book page numbers, and quoted the author of the book, i.e., "the work of Sully", but removed link to Thomas Sully. Regards, ColWilliam (talk) 02:12, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
