This is a great aerial photo. In it is the confluence of Freshwater Slough (the larger stream in the upper area of the photo), which contains the flow of Freshwater Creek (the source of the municipal water supply of the City of Eureka before the Mad River was dammed), one of the four major streams draining approximately 250 square miles of watershed surrounding Humboldt Bay into the bay. In that, Ryan Creek, which flows from south of Eureka, has flowed into Ryan Slough (barely visible in the top portion if the photo is expanded). In the left hand area of the picture, left of Harper Ford (and other dealerships), which is one of the oldest Ford Dealerships in California, is the rather large stream, the Eureka Slough. In the right hand corner is the area of Myrtletown, a CDP and unincorporated neighborhood of Eureka, CA. In front of Harper's is US Highway Route 101's Northbound lanes. Additionally, along the edge of the plain, is the major secondary road of the region, Myrtle Avenue (Old Arcata Road), which was the major route connecting north to Arcata before Highway 101 was built.
