Summary

Description
English: Relationship of molecular motion to absolute zero on the thermodynamic temperature scale.

Even if scientists removed all the heat energy from matter that theoretically could be removed (en:absolute zero), the motion-inducing effect of quantum mechanical en:zero-point energy still remains. Since quantum mechanical zero-point energy is an intrinsic, all-pervasive phenomenon in all matter, absolute zero serves as the baseline atop which en:thermodynamics and its equations are founded.
