Summary
[edit]Description | Picture of Julie Buffalohead's painting You are on Indian Land (2017) at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., in 2023. A fantasy painting depicting a group of animals in the style of children's fairy tales. Five rabbits are setting up an upside-down American flag and barbed wire around a concrete barrier with the phrase "You are on Indian Land" written on it. A "No trespassing" sign, blue flag, and sign that reads "No DAPL" can be seen behind the concrete barrier. A deer stands in the left of the frame looking towards the rabbits with patterned fabric draped over its back. A wolf or coyote stands on its hind legs in the right of the frame, wearing a pink tutu skirt and holding a pink fairy wand. The figures and scene are depicted against a stark white background. |
