Date of publication | 1972 |
Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) | Yoshihisa Maitani |
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) | for visual identification of the person in question, at the top of their biographical article |
Not replaceable with free media because (WP:NFCC#1) |
Mr. Maitani retired from Olympus in 1996 and made public appearances rarely after that, well before the prevalence of digital cameras and smartphones. The image searches for his name return the cameras that he was responsible for designing and only rarely the person. Maitani's fame stems from both his works and the c.1979 print advertising campaign commissioned by Olympus of America, which touted his achievements and made him the public face of the company. The image chosen is contemporaneous with the height of this fame, rather than newer pictures (circa 2005) published towards the end of his life. |
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) | Resized to reduce resolution; black and white. |
Respect for commercial opportunities (WP:NFCC#2) |
Mr. Maitani is no longer involved in active marketing for Olympus, and the 50+ year old portrait is unlikely to be used for a modern marketing campaign. |
Other information | The subject of the photograph has been deceased since: 2009-07-30 |
