Summary

Description
English: Photo of interior second floor, city gate guardhouse of Xi'an, China. Photo taken Richard Chambers, AAA Yangtze Sampler tour, May 2004.

The seconf story of the guardhouse is reached by climbing the stone stairs from the interior courtyard between the inner and outer gates to the top of the wall. Then walk into the first story of the guardhouse which now contains souvenir shopping sections within the large open area of the first floor. The ceiling of the first floor is five or six meters above the floor with large posts within the interior supporting the upper structure of the guardhouse. After stepping in the doorway, walk towards the left and there is a stairway against the wall which can be climbed to the second story.

When you reach the top, you will see this view. On the second story there was a second souvenir shop displaying its wares on tables.

The ceiling is uncomfortably low with the exposed beams invoking a dread of a bump on the head for a taller person.

See photo of outer gate with wooden guardhouse to see an exterior view of the guardhouse as seen from the courtyard.

See photo of the balcony.

See photo taken from second floor balcony overlooking courtyard showing outside wall and moat.
