| Description |
English: Vilalba dels Arcs, site of heavy fighting between the Republican 31. Mixed Brigade and the Carlist Requete battalion of Tercio de Nuestra Senora de Montserrat, taking place on August 19, 1938. View from Punta Targa (Cota 481), objective of the Carlist attack, to Cuatro Caminos (Cota 427), the Carlist original position; detailed account and sketch here. On the visible distance of 250 metres the Carlists lost 58 KIA and 174 WIA; Republican casualties are not known. The cross at Cota 427 was erected in 1968, see La Vanguardia 18.05.68, available here, and following numerous vandalisation episodes, destroyed by unknown perperators in 2018, see Tres monolitos de la Batalla de l'Ebre y la Guerra Civil aparecen destrozados, [in:] DiariMes service 07.12.2018 |
