DescriptionWorld War II Aerosol Bomb (Bug Bomb).jpg
English: This is a photograph of the first mass-produced version of the aerosol bomb used to dispense insecticide. This 1 lb. form factor was developed shortly after the start of World War II and used extensively in the Pacific Theater to control mosquitoes and the spread of malaria. The device dispensed a solution of pyrethrum and sesame oil as the insecticide using Freon 12 as the gas propellant. It was activated by breaking the wire-tab seal and deactivated, if not emptied, by placement of knurled threaded metal cap (not shown). Approximately 40 million were manufactured as part of the war effort.
