Summary

Description

World distribution of snakes (Order Serpentes), after data from Cogger, H.G & Zweifel, R.G. (1998). Reptiles & Amphibians". ISBN 0121785602 - black is land with snakes, blue sea with snakes. grey is land without, white water without.

Later, changes were made to reflect the absence of sea snakes in the Atlantic and the Red Sea, as well as to expand their range along the Pacific coast of the Americas and and in eastern Pacific. This is based on information from Campbell and Lamar (2004), Spawls and Branch (1995), Parker and Grandison (1977), Priede (1990), Mehrtens (1987) and U.S. Navy (1991). See Sea snake for these references.
