Summary
| Description | Built circa 1900 as a dry goods store, this Classical Revival-style building was home an F. W. Woolworth 5 & 10 discount store for most of the 20th Century, which closed in the early 1990s. Following the closure of the Woolworth store, the building was purchased by Ashley Development, which rehabilitated the building and restored the facade, with retail space on the first floor and commercial office space on the second floor. The building features an orange brick facade with a parapet featuring a stepped and partially curved central section, one-over-one double-hung windows on the second floor, stone sills, bands of soldier bricks on either side of the second floor windows, a first floor clad in stone panels with the Woolworth name prominently displayed over the two retail spaces, with a side entrance to the upper floors and stone panels cladding the base of the storefront windows. The building is a contributing structure in the Central Bethlehem Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, and expanded to include additional buildings in 1988. |
