Summary

Description
English: Wivenhoe House The house was built by Thomas Reynolds in the late eighteenth century for the Rebow family. It was painted by Constable in 1816, taken over by the War Office in 1939 and used by the SAS. It has been visited by Churchill, Queen Elizabeth and Nelson Mandela. In 1963 the house and its surrounding parkland were acquired to become the campus of the newly established University of Essex. Since 1977, the house has been a conference centre.
