There can be little doubt that in common with the other countriesof Asia Minor there were aborigines in these regions whom the Aryans over-came in their migrations westward. No doubt Galatia had at one time a popula-tion of Aryan extraction. The geograph-ical position of the country would seemto forbid any other conclusion, but the strange fact in the ethnic history of the country is the incoming of a Gallic, that is a Celtic, race from the West. It was this Gallic invasion of 277 B. C. which gave the name to the country.
