Summary
[edit]Description |
This is the logo owned by Sony Music Entertainment for The Windham Hill Records Wikipedia Page. |
---|---|
Source |
The logo is from the following website: http://www.windham.com |
Article | |
Portion used |
The entire logo is used to convey the meaning intended and avoid tarnishing or misrepresenting the intended image. |
Low resolution? |
The logo is of a size and resolution sufficient to maintain the quality intended by the company or organization, without being unnecessarily high resolution. |
Purpose of use |
The image is placed in the infobox at the top of the article discussing The Windham Hill Records Wikipedia Page, a subject of public interest. The significance of the logo is to help the reader identify the organization, assure the readers that they have reached the right article containing critical commentary about the organization, and illustrate the organization's intended branding message in a way that words alone could not convey. |
Replaceable? |
Because it is a non-free logo, there is almost certainly no free representation. Any substitute that is not a derivative work would fail to convey the meaning intended, would tarnish or misrepresent its image, or would fail its purpose of identification or commentary. |
Other information |
Use of the logo in the article complies with Wikipedia non-free content policy, logo guidelines, and fair use under United States copyright law as described above. |
Fair useFair use of copyrighted material in the context of Windham Hill Records//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Windham1985logo.jpgtrue |
The source of this specific image came from http://www.bsnpubs.com/aandm/windhamhill.jpg though many websites use it in reference to the record label. The author of the image is Jay Durgan & Anne Robinson though Sony Music Entertainment holds the copyright to the logo since buying the record label in 2005. This image is only intended to be used on the Windham Hill Records (en.wikipedia.org/windham_hill_records) article in an "info box."
This logo is believed to be fair use as in the following explanation:
This logo is under fair use practices in that it only supports Sony Music Entertainment's marketing in the record label. Though the logo is held by Sony in copyright, the logo is freely available from Sony and no free equivalently is available nor could be digitally scanned in order to make a "free image." Being that this image is widely available on other websites give prudence to the fact that Sony recognizes a fair use of their logo. Lastly, showing the logo on Wikipedia restricts in no way from Sony using the logo on their own to further exploit their marketing strategies.
