Description William D. Mahon (1861–1949) was a former coal miner and streetcar driver who became president of the Amalgamated Association of Street Railway Employees of America, now the Amalgamated Transit Union. This picture is from a set of playing cards published by Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America around 1955, with caption: "William D. Mahon (1861-1949) Streetcar man. As Int'l Pres. Amalg. Assoc. Street, Electric Ry., & Motor Coach Employees, guided the destinies of the organization from 1893 until retirement in 1946. Vigorous organizer, public servant."
