DescriptionWigan North Western railway station 2052512 4fbe2a7c.jpg
English: Wigan North Western Station with the Up Caledonian.
View NW, towards Preston, Carlisle and Glasgow; ex-London & North Western West Coast Main Line. This is back in 1957, with the Up 'Caledonian', Glasgow Central to London Euston 'crack' express - faster even than the 'Royal Scot', taking only seven hours; 'All Seats Reserved', so aimed at the 'Business' clientele ('Executive' in modern parlance). The locomotive is 'Coronation' 4-6-2 No. 46242 'City of Glasgow' (appropriately) - a splendid sight.
