Deutsch: Totenkopf mit Reichskrone am Sarkophag des Kaisers Karl VI. in der Kaiser- bzw. Kapuzinergruft im 1. Wiener Bezirk Innere Stadt.
Der ursprüngliche Sarkophag war ein Gemeinschaftswerk von Johann Nikolaus Moll und Johann Georg Pichler. Weil Maria Theresia den Sarkophag ihres Vaters Karl VI. weniger prächtig fand als den ihrer Mutter, erhielt der Bruder vom verstorbenen Johann Nikolaus Moll (1709–1743), Balthazar Ferdinand Moll (1717–1785), 1751 den Auftrag den Sarkophag „in repräsentative Form zu bringen“. Balthazar Ferdinand Molls Werk bestand in der Hinzufügung von vier Totenköpfen mit Kronen und der vier Löwen, die den Sarg tragen, sowie der Schlachtenreliefs, die die Schlacht von Saragossa vom 20. August 1710 und die Schlacht von Belgrad vom 16. bis zum 18. August 1717 darstellenː [1]. English: A skull with the crown of the Holy Roman Empire on the sarcophagus of Emperor Charles VI. |
