English: This wide-field view shows a region of sky in the famous constellation of Orion (The Hunter), as seen in visible light. The large, bright feature at the top of the image is the well-known Orion Nebula (Messier 42). This view was created from images forming part of the Digitized Sky Survey 2.
Italiano: Questo ampio campo mostra la regione a meridione della Nebulosa di Orione, nell'omonima costellazione, nella luce visibile, nella quale si estende la grande nebulosa oscura nota come LDN 1641. L'immagine è stata creata assemblando varie fotografie scattate nel corso del Digitized Sky Survey 2. L'oggetto grande e brillante in prossimità del bordo superiore è la Nebulosa di Orione (M 42). In prossimità del bordo della Nebulosa è visibile la stella Iota Orionis, circondata dalle stelle dell'ammasso aperto NGC 1980.
Le due stelle brillanti nella parte bassa dell'immagine sono Upsilon Orionis (sulla destra) e 49 Orionis (sulla sinistra). Seppur visivamente adiacente a 49 Orionis, la nebulosa a riflessione IC 430/IC 429 è associata alla stella variabile V883 Orionis. Sono inoltre visibili varie altre nebulose a riflessione nell'immagine:
