Description
English: The Vollis Simpson Whirliigig Park on Goldsboro Street S. at Douglas Street S. in Wilson, North Carolina, opened on November 2, 2017 to document, conserve, and display the large whirlgigs from Simpson's property in Lucama, North Carolina. Wilson held its first annual Wilson Whirligig Festival in 2004. It was renamed in 2016 to the North Carolina Whirligig Festival, and is usually held the first full weekend of November. The North Carolina legislature named the whirligig the state's official folk art in June 2013.
