Wie sieht Hitler aus? Adolf Hitler lässt sich nie abbilden. Bei meinem Aufenhalt in Berlin wurde ich mit fragen über sein Aussehen bestürmt. (Th. Th. Heine)
(...)
Die Fragen mussten unbeantwortet bleiben. Hitler ist überhaupt kein Individuum. Er ist ein Zustand. Nur der Futurist kan ihn bildlich darstellen.
English: At the beginning of his political career in Munich Hitler had enforced a Bilderbot [Bilderverbot], a prohibition being photographed. No publicly imagery being available, and inasmuch as he was then only known by his speeches, the satirical magazine Simplicissimus printed this gallery of conjecture –very possibly the first satire of the politician. (This image was also published in Becoming Hitler: The Making of a Nazi by Thomas Weber, 2017, credited to Simplicissimus.)
What does Hitler look like? Adolf Hitler can never be depicted. During my stay in Berlin I was bombarded with questions about his appearance. (Th. Th. Heine)
(...)
The questions had to remain unanswered. Hitler is not an individual at all. He is a state. Only the futurist can depict him.)
Later than summer, Hitler had an autobiographical sketch ghostwritten by Victor von Koeber, and himself professionally photographed.
