D.Kean ; Image is a digital frame grab from a ca. 1916-1919 film (ca. 100 years old) whose copyright has expired in Canada; the film is Whaling: British Columbia's Least Known and Most Romantic Industry, and the frame grab is used as a thumbnail for the video of the film on the YouTube channel of Library and Archives Canada. The LAC holds the only known complete print of the film and considers it to be in the public domain. Their reasoning is that the film is subject to Crown Copyright (which expires after fifty years) and was published before 1946.
