The Cope of the Virgin Mary Hood: the Virgin as intercessor; concentric rows of chapels: heavenly choirs of angels, holy virgins, women and widows Gold and silver thread in appliqué technique, embroidery with silk and pearls Creation: Between 1433 and 1442 Robert Campin designed three embroidered copes commissioned by Philip the Good. “These copes were probably produced in the workshop of Thierry du Chastel, an embroider who originally came from Paris. The vestment, worn at the prayer services of the order of the Golden Fleece, may be regarded as an artistic response to the Ghent Altarpiece by the van Eyck brothers, completed in 1432.
