Summary

Description
English: This wayang beber is estimated to be from 18th century, from the era of the king Sunan Paku Buwono II of the Mataram sultanate. This wayang beber is painted with the sungging painting technique on daluang paper that is wrapped around bamboo sticks, the plays are also rarely performed and before every unrolling of the scrolls, for showing or performing, a ritual and a prayer (sesajen) are required. Unlike the Pacitan style, the scrolls from Wonosari have a simplified, less decorative background, without many details. The story is based on Panji legend namely Remeng Mangunjoyo (Remeng Mangunjaya). Remeng Mangunjoyo describes the scenes from Panji’s life from the time when he lived as a hermit and surpassed many temptations and obstacles in order to come back to Dewi Sekartaji. It is located at the village of Wonosari (Gelaran hamlet), Bejiharjo, Karangmojo, Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta.
