Description
"Wang Xizhi of the Eastern Jin dynasty in the fourth century was the Sage of Calligraphy. His contemporaries vied with one another to obtain pieces of his calligraphy, whether letters or transcriptions of texts. A Daoist bent on owning his calligraphy bred a flock of geese, knowing Wang enjoyed watching them and eating them – their necks inspired him to hold the writing brush in a novel way. Wang agreed to an exchange and spend the day writing calligraphy for the man. In this scene, Wang and his son, the future cursive master Wang Xianzhi, carefully guide the geese home before sundown."
