Summary

Description
English: WD 2-10-0 90775 at Holt Railway Station. A WD 2-10-0 90775 designed by R.A. Riddles was purchased by the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway Society in 2006. The locomotive was built in 1943, the third in the first batch of 100 built by North British Locomotive Co. Glasgow as works no. 25438. It once had the name 'Sturdee' and was numbered 3652 by the Ministry of Supply and later, after shipping abroad, was renumbered as WD73652. Originally shipped to the Middle East it ended up in Egypt where it worked until 1945 and then was sold to to Hellenic State Railways (SEK) along with 15 sister locos. Having been displaced by new diesels in 1976, it was relegated to secondary work and finally withdrawn from service in 1979. the locomotive was repatriated to the UK in August 1984. For detail see > 1249296.

The original Holt Station was opened on 1. October, 1884. It was a timber- built structure which had been the original Yarmouth Beach station. This station was replaced by an Eastern & Midlands Railway pavilion type structure in brick two years later which was destroyed by fire in 1926 and replaced in concrete. When in 2000 the station building at Stalham became available it was dismantled and transported to Holt. The new station was opened in time for the 2005 season > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1249150. http://www.mandgn.co.uk/buildings_holtstation.htm

The following information was added by Ashley Dace https://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/29497

The locomotive was built to a design and with materials that were expected to only last 10 years or so before it would become worn out. The fact that it lasted much longer is a credit to Riddles and the build team. The locomotive was withdrawn from service in June 2009 with firebox problems two years before expiry of the boiler ticket. The locomotive will now be stored for a period before the expensive overhaul is considered.
