Description
English: A view of the attack on 15 September 1804 by a French squadron, commanded by Rear-Admiral Charles-Alexandre Léon Durand, comte de Linois (1761-1848), on HMS Centurion, commanded by Captain James Lind (c.1765-1823) and two merchant ships off Vizagapatam in the Bay of Bengal. Napoleonic Wars (1803-15).

In this minor naval action the French captured the Princess Charlotte, but the Centurion survived the attack of the overwhelming French forces and this was greeted as a great achievement for which Lind was knighted. The date of 18 September, engraved in the title, appears to be an error; the action is recorded as having occurred on the 15th of that month.

George III catalogue entry: Naval Engagement View of the Attack made on the 18.th of Sept.r 1804, on H.M.
