Description

US Ambassador Dan Shapiro visited the city of Nazareth on December 22 2011 where he met the mayor of Nazareth Ramez Jaraisy and representatives from the Secretariat of the National Committee of the Heads of Local Arab Authorities in Israel. Afterwards he visited New Technology Generation where he met with NGT team Mr. Kayed Abu-Ayash, Hoda Khalilia Tamar Harrir, and learned about the initiatives of Dr. Saher Hamed “Remedor Biomed” a novel formulation for therapeutical use and also Dr. Amal Ayoub’s “Metallo Therapy” which is developing a technology for improving radiotherapy and diagnostics methods. Ambassador Shapiro surprised Dr. Ayoub and announced that she was honoured as one of twelve outstanding professional women taking part in the U.S. Department of State’s Women in Science Hall of Fame Program. Ambassador Shapiro also met with students and teachers from the USG funded Access-Microscholarship English Language program implemented by the Follow-up Committee on Arab Education at the Galilee School and NAI and learned about the success of this enriching program and its great impact on students’ lives. Ambassador Shapiro also visited the new Nazareth Industrial Park, conceived & funded by industrialist Stef Wertheime, and met with Mr. Shawki Khatib, Project Manager and Mr. Arie Dahan, General Director and learned on the progress of this first of its kind joint Arab Jewish industrial park located at an Arab town. With the holiday spirit, Ambassador Shapiro visited the Greek Orthodox & Roman Catholic Annunciation churches and sent his warm Christmas and New Year’s greetings to the entire Christian community in Israel by the beautiful Nazareth Christmas tree.
