Description
English: Visit of Alberto Fujimori, President of Peru, to the CEC.
Jacques Delors, President of the CEC, and Abel Matutes, Member of the CEC in charge of Mediterranean Policy, Relations with Latin America and Asia (excluding Far East) and North-South Relations, received Alberto Fujimori, President of Peru, Carlos Torres y Torres Lara, Peruvian Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs. Discussions related to the recovery and good management of the Peruvian economy. The Commission declared itself satisfied with the results concerning the reintegration of Peru into the international economy. Also discussed were the efforts made by the country in the field of the internal peace-making process of Peru and the policies launched to tackle the issue of drug trafficking. Furthermore, cooperation between the Community and Peru was considered positive. Considering difficulties faced by his country, Alberto Fujimori submitted requests for financial support from the Commission, in the social and humanitarian fields as well as for the economic revitalisation of Peru, and requested the Commission support as regards the reintegration of Peru into the international financial circuits. It as also been decided to co-finance a joint-venture with the IFU, within the framework of the ECIP (European Community Investment Partners).
