English: This map depicts the approximate location and extent of the reservoir on the Meramec River in Missouri at Virginia Mines that would have been formed by dam #40 of the cancelled Meramec Basin Project. This lake does not exist. The Virginia Mines lake was proposed as part of a second phase of dam building, being described as "economically justified", but not part of the initial flood-control plan. This map is based on an estimated pool elevation of 170 meters with a dam at 38.3068 N 90.9071 W, which were derived from a very low resolution map published by the Corps of Engineers. Roads are shown in their 2006 alignment with no suggestion as to whether any would have bridged the lake had it been built. The two other lakes depicted in this map were part of the same defunct project and also were not built; these streams are still free-flowing as of 2012.
