Summary

Description
English: View of Fairfax Station from the south in 1863. The devastation caused by the Civil War to this once heavily wooded area is evident. Only a few mature trees are visible in the distance in contrast with the numerous stumps in the foreground. Depot buildings and a locomotive can be seen in the center. The station itself had been destoyed months earlier. A conical telegrapher hut is visible in the center background. The two men in the left foreground are unidentified.
