English: Interior of Victorian Railways 5'3" gauge 'S' Type CorTen steel bodied, air conditioned buffet car No.3 'Mitta Mitta' (built 1939, withdrawn 1990) at the Victoria Railway Museum, North Williamstown, 2 April 2016. The 'S' Type coaches were based on American streamlined designs (particularly the B&O's 'Royal Blue') and were a radical advance for Australian coaches, being intended for the new 'Spirit of Progress' streamliner hauled by the renowned 'S' Class streamlined Pacifics. 4 'S' dining cars were built in 1938-39. They were 75 foot long and weighed 51 tons. In 1962 'Mitta Mitta' was converted to standard gauge as No.VRS 231. After WWII the 'S' buffet cars were also used on 'The Overland', the Intercapital Daylight', the 'Sydney Express' and 'the Melbourne Express'.
