Description
English: This is an image of a postmark applied to Mexican letters from 1736 to 1739.
Date Mark dates from c. 1736-1739
Source This is an image of a postmark applied to Mexican letters from 1736 to 1739. The image is taken from Otto Yag & John K. Bash, The Pre-Stamp Postal Markings of Mexico, Illinois (1965; 2nd printing 1973). Since the stamp was issued prior to 1923, it is no longer subject to copyright, and an exact two dimensional copyright of it also has no claim to copyright. In the alternative, its use to illustrate the article Postage stamps and postal history of Mexico is fair use. It comprises only an infinitesimally small portion of the source book, it is used for purely educational purposes and not commercially, and there is no reasonable alternative as the image is necessary to convey the style and character of the ancient image. It is scanned at a lower resolution. Finally, it is generally accepted that an image of a postage stamp used to illustrate a philatelic article is fair use.

This image is in the public domain because it is a mere mechanical scan or photocopy of a public domain original, or – from the available evidence – is so similar to such a scan or photocopy that no copyright protection can be expected to arise. The original itself is in the public domain for the following reason:
Public domain

This work is in the public domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 100 years or fewer.

You must also include a United States public domain tag to indicate why this work is in the public domain in the United States.
This file has been identified as being free of known restrictions under copyright law, including all related and neighboring rights.

This tag is designed for use where there may be a need to assert that any enhancements (eg brightness, contrast, colour-matching, sharpening) are in themselves insufficiently creative to generate a new copyright. It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For known raw unenhanced scans you can use an appropriate {{PD-old}} tag instead. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag.

Note: This tag applies to scans and photocopies only. For photographs of public domain originals taken from afar, {{PD-Art}} may be applicable. See Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag.
