The surprise of the gunboat of Jan van Speyk by Belgian rebels on 5 February 1831. Jan van Speyk is in the cabin, just about to fire his pistol into the gunpowder room. Across from him is a wild-eyed Belgian rebel with drawn sword. To the right a stove and bureau. At the bottom of the picture the dedication to Prince Frederik and the Coat of Arms of that prince.

De overrompeling van de kanonneerboot van Jan van Speijk door Belgische opstandelingen, 5 februari 1831. Jan van Speijk in de kajuit staat op het punt zijn pistool te vuren in het ruim met het buskruit. Tegenover hem een woest kijkende Belgische opstandeling met getrokken sabel. Rechts een kachel en werktafel. Onderaan de opdracht aan prins Frederik en het wapen van de prins. |
