Description
English: Frontispiece showing the stage design for a mystery play, The Passion and Resurrection of the Savior, a Passion play performed in Valenciennes in 1547. The image provides an overview of the scenic backgrounds stretched across a single long stage. The locations identified, R-L, include a split-level Hell with dramatic Hellmouth, Limbo/Purgatory of the Fathers, the Sea [of Galilee], the Golden Gate, the Bishop's House, the Palace, Jerusalem, the Temple, Nazareth, a Hall, and an elevated Paradise.
