Description
  • English: UK Type A pillar box in Tipperary, Republic of Ireland. This pillar box was made between 1887 and 1901, as it bears the Royal cypher "VR" for Queen Victoria, whose cypher was reintroduced on postboxes in 1887 and continued until her death in 1901. When Ireland gained independence from Britain in 1922 it repainted the post boxes from red to green. This pillar box has been repaired as evidenced by the raised welds on the door.
