Description
English: A U.S. Navy McDonnell F-4J-33-MC Phantom II (BuNo 155531) of Fighter Squadron 102 (VF-102) "Diamondbacks" intercepts an Egyptian Air Force Tupolev Tu-16 (NATO reporting code: "Badger") over the Mediterranean Sea 160 km south-east of Sicily, Italy, on 12 January 1971. VF-102 was assigned to Attack Carrier Air Wing 7 (CVW-7) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Independence (CVA-62) for a deployment to the Mediterranean Sea from 16 September 1971 to 16 March 1972.
